When he can think of nothing, he impulsively tells the class his talent is training his dog and the dog can do math; he is laughed at by the whole class. This fact, combined with the twist-and-turn adventures in the story, makes Crispin a character the reader roots for on every page. I belong to those who believe that as much as Angel, Cordelia was the thematic heart of the show, in that she showed how even shallow, petty, and self-absorbed people can fulfill their potential and become not only good but genuinely heroic. The one piece of advice I give new ASD parents: This isn't a death sentence, help your child be all he or she can be, use all help, never stop. Stories written in a pieced-together style don't always work but Sovereign benefits from intelligent plotting, an intriguing mythology, and decent prose. This book in particular didn't take safety or budget into concern from my perspective.
