Whistles, the Whistling Oak Tree teaches that the rewards are great when you are active and helping others. "Annie's disarming voice evokes nostalgia for a bygone era and hope for humanity in a weary, modern world. Or maybe even does look like. When one owns one or more of an artists paintings, there begins to develop an understanding and a revelation of that deeper beauty and fuller harmony that comes to the artist as he has expressed a part of himself in his canvas. However, it is indicative of what is wrong with the world of modern art [or even postmodern art] where pretentious jargon takes the place of actual description, reason or discussion as an excuse for art works that in the end are just boring. To me this was a good read. I thought Waters did an especially good job of both writing hot sex scenes that made it clear this was as much, if not more, Maya's fantasies as Dean's, even if he's the one doling out the assignments, while also portraying how her past sneaks up on her and threatens to derail her enjoyment.
