For someone who isn't well read in psychology or social behavior, this is a great resource because it turns technical terms into social mechanisms that many of us borderlines can relate to. The only problem I had with the book is because of its length I'd put it down after awhile and would pick it up later only to have problems trying to remember who was who. The timeline of the book follows the same as the life of Aurora, an ethereal spirit who was discovered as a baby floating on an ice slab in middle of the Atlantic ocean, her birthplace and story up until that point a mystery to all. Here was the wife of his heart, the true mother of his child. The story offers a revealing glimpse into life in the sometimes seedy and sometimes elegant demimonde of London, Berlin and Paris in the 1930s and1940s. He explores both mystics' extraordinary lives and their no-less-extraordinary writings using a unique case-study method centered on detailed examinations of six major Christian mystics: Thomas Merton, Bernard of Clairvaux, Hildegard of Bingen, Bonaventure, Meister Eckhart, and Evagrius Ponticus.
